There is something about fusing pop music with a country’s cultural sounds that just does it for me. A great example is Greece’s performance for Eurovision 2007. It appeals to the part of me that still loves Ricky Martin, while bringing the latent belly dancer in me first and forefront. And as a friend of mine pointed out, the attractive male in the video doesn’t exactly hurt. However, as much as I love dancing, and as much fun as THIS song is, my feet really hurt now! I suppose an hour of dancing barefoot on wood floors will do that.
This past weekend was Mother’s Day for us, and due to one reason or another, we didn’t do anything, nor did I get wished Happy Mother’s Day by anyone but my parents. Not a big deal, but a little part of me was upset that my husband didn’t say anything. Just a little. I could have stayed upset… but decided to treat myself instead. (Mwahahaha!) It’s part of being a Mom - you take care of everyone else and yourself! The end result of the day was two books I have been lusting after for quite some time - both involving spinning and colors and YARN! (Of course! What else would I get?)

Spinning Designer Yarns
and my very first sock book. Yes, you sock knitters… I caved! I am going to knit socks! This book looked sufficiently funky, and included lots of pictures, er… yarn porn!!

The Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook
I am muy mucho excited! Yarn porn, fibery goodness… in full color with new things to try! Oh, baby, bring it on! Mmmm…
Oh! Before I forget (again!) - I have new bamboo yarn pictures! I’m thinking this batch of yarn might qualify for sock yarnage, but I haven’t checked the WPI’s yet. It’s been a blast to spin though, even more so because I’m finally picking up some speed. Not quite as fast as I’d like to be yet, but getting there! I think it has something to do with the different drafting style I’m playing with; long draft spinning from the fold, with a tad of worsted thrown in for good measure. It sounds odd - but it’s working really well for the bamboo, and I’m looking forward to trying it out on some other fibers. Anyway - the yarn porn!
The yarn is on a ‘4 ounce’ bobbin, still happily situated on the flyer. Looking good so far, if I do say so myself!
and a close-up, because I’m really proud of how smooth and even this yarn is, for the most part. There are still some thinner spots, but for the most part, I’m thinking SOCKS! I could be wrong though. What do you guys think?
I am really loving the bamboo, and have more on the way. I will probably take a break when I finish off this next pound of top to play with some SoySilk. I’m curious to see how the new drafting will work out on the SoySilk versus the bamboo. I should test it on some merino too. Hmm. So much to do, not enough time to do it all and still sleep!
Hopefully your weeks are going beautifully - don’t forget to let those dear to you know you love them!
Peace and knitty,
Oriri
PS. Did you know that the blood pressure of knitters and spinners alike drop in the presence of yarn/fibery goodness? Stashing is good for you! So hug your stash today too!

I have both these books (you’re not surprised are you?) and I find something new in them every time I open them. The sock book is very good, the table showing the relationship between wpi, foot size and stitch count is just about worth the price of the book.
I did try bamboo once and didn’t like if for reasons that I can’t remember now. Yours looks so good I might try it again.
