It’s amazing how much can change in a month.
The weather can go from freezing to summer and then on to something that makes me wonder if Mother Nature is depressed. It’s not just raining over here more than usual - it’s been lightly raining for several days straight. It’s a wet blanket for moods and is throwing my sleep off a bit too. Here I was all getting used to it getting dark at 9pm, and now it’s dark most of the day. I have faith things will brighten up soon.
The grey and wet weather means we stay inside a lot more than we would otherwise - which is a good opportunity to catch up on all those indoor activities; puzzles, books, dancing, the occasional nap and, of course, spinning. Not at all bad things to do - but the kids miss running around outside, and I miss the sun. Still, there has been some definite good that has come from all of this indoor-ness - and I stumbled upon this when looking through the blog photo gallery.
March 5th, 2007:
That was the silk that became the first Fireworks and Blue Nebula. I was so proud of those yarns at the time - they seemed so even, so thin, so pretty. Mind you, I’m still proud of them - silk isn’t easy to spin as a beginner, and those were challenging yarns to spin! Yet on May 15th, just under a month and a half later, this is on the wheel:
The bamboo sock yarn. Comparing the two makes me smile, really being able to see first hand the progress. I mean, it’s one thing to know you’ve made progress, but it’s an entirely different thing to see the progress first hand, and have a record of your thoughts at the time of the photos, know what I mean? It does something for your self-confidence, for lack of a better term, and the visual reminder of how far you’ve come is a kind of motivation in itself; if you’ve come this far this fast, imagine where you will be on one more month if you keep practicing, keep spinning, keep knitting, keep working at it.
It’s amazing how much can change in a month, isn’t it?
