It’s finally finished! My first honest to goodness, start-to-finish-meant-to-be-a-sock-yarn, yarn.
100% hand spun bamboo yarn, natural and undyed as of yet. I’m not sure what colors I’ll go with, but it’ll have to go well with shorts. Something bright, eye-catching and funky - what do you think? Blues? Greens? Full spectrum rainbow? Mmm, rainbow! With red toes! Gradient dyeing… oooh. Hippie socks! That should do nicely.
All 720 yards took me about two weeks of off and on spinning, often interrupted by my 18 month old daughter dragging any (and all) of the bamboo top that I wasn’t working with out of the bag… and then wrapping it around her like some kind of bamboo-based feather boa… minus the feathers. It’s funny now - but by the time this sock yarn was finished, I was so frustrated with her dragging my bamboo top across the living room floor, I had promised to spin her some of her own bamboo yarn and knit her her own bamboo socks. Or a baby t-shirt. What can I say? Mom is a softie… but at least the girlie has good taste in fiber.
Yarn porn of the finished sock yarn, including a gnarly, messy part that reminds me that the best part of this yarn isn’t what it’s made out of, how it looks or what it feels like… but that I did it myself!

Most of the two skeins. Two because the yarn snapped on me when I was winding it off the bobbin on to the niddy noddy. The larger, the one in the back, is about 460 yards of yarn.

The gnarly part, where all the uneven, thicker and curly yarn decided to hang out.
A close-up. So preeeeettyyyy. I love yarn so very much.
Hopefully my small double pointed needles will get here soon. Got a few pairs of KnitPicks needles, on recommendation from a fellow knitty friend. I am SO excited. SOCKS SOCKS SOCKS!
Hope everyone has had a great weekend!
Peace & knitty,
Oriri

Aw yay! I love the socks idea… but, I don’t want to knit socks out of bamboo until I move out. The floor here would just turn them icky!
bad old wood floors.
