Peacock, Little Princess & Summer Solstice

This will be the last entry for a week or two - today is the last day we’ll have an internet connection until we arrive back in the States. I’ll be back soon!

I had this long entry written up. Except now that I’m here, it doesn’t fit anymore. Things I had planned on doing… some didn’t get finished. Some turned out differently. Some were glorious surprises. So instead of a long winded entry on yarn and projects, I’ll leave you with pictures and a few explanations. Mostly sock yarn. ;)

Faded Rose is finally finished, and is staying lace weight. It was just too pretty to ply - I love the constant, gradual color changes.

The Peacock Yarn is now becoming The Peacock Socks, knit for my middle child. He’s very excited about his socks, the socks just for him. I’m using the Eastern Cast On from this summer’s Interweave Knits, and it looks really great - especially considering that it’s my first real sock! I’m really enjoying knitting from the toe up, too. (I frogged all the cuff down socks I started shortly after starting them… sizing issues.) This particular pattern uses a total of four DPNs, and for this pair it’s an 8 stitch cast on, with a total of 40 working stitches.

Dante didn’t get finished. I just ran out of time. The good news is that both my oldest son’s and my daughter’s sock yarns did get finished. With three sock collectors, it would have been a mistake of Big Foot proportions to knit one kiddo socks and not knit the other two their own pairs. For my daughter I opted for the colors of royalty… and Princess colors; Dharma Trading’s Amethyst and Plum.

Little Princess:

My oldest son, after much debate, decided he wanted blue socks. Or yellow socks. So I did both. The end result has more green in it than I wanted, but I know what to do differently next time to prevent it. (Rubber bands!) Reminicent of pool and ocean blues, sun and sand yellows…

Summer Solstice:

Honestly, I love all of the bamboo sock yarns. (All three are bamboo.) But Summer Solstice is my favorite - I’m a summer person, and with all the rain we’ve been having the clear, pool blues and sunny yellows were a much needed reminder that even though the skies are grey here in Germany, we’ll be seeing blue skies and the sun soon. Very soon.

I’ll see you all on the other side of The Pond. ;)
