Stitch Markers & Thoughts On Wholesale

I’ve been working on stitch markers for socks and lace, all made of sterling silver and Swarovski glass pearls. I’ve been winding finished yarns and cleaning in preparation for moving, plus the usual Mommy of Three Under Age Six gig. I keep telling myself that I will actually get around to listing yarn in the shop and packing off yarn to Pam, but when the end of the day rolls around, it’s about all I can do to brush my teeth and crawl in bed! And while finally getting the motivation to work out again is good for me, it definitely contributes to me falling asleep sitting at my desk. ;)

I’ve got three more hanks of yarn to wind, eight hanks of Midnight Denim to get presentable, and then a basket full of sock yarn to list. And stitch markers. And six hanks to dye. The next batch of yarns, 20 pounds worth, are not due in for another week. Which gives me time to finish off the remaining blanks in various weights I’ve got sitting about.

I’ve been entertaining the thought of going primarily wholesale, at least until the end of the year; partly because we’re moving in a few weeks and then again in Octoberish, but also because over the past few weeks I’ve been seriously looking at how to go about switching the store/shopping cart application I’m running here on ODD. To be honest, it will take a considerable amount of time to pull off the way I want, and that’s time I don’t have when working strictly retail. Going wholesale would also mean that I get to do larger batches of each color, which for some odd reason, I really like doing. (As is, I’m itching to do a repeat of Royalty Remembered just so I can have a hank to call my own.) It might also mean that I get to spend more time doing what I love - dyeing yarn, taking arty yarn photos, blogging, actually KNITTING - than I am now. Strange but true, the listing process actually takes me longer than the dyeing process because I dislike it that much! Guess I’m more of an artist than marketer than I let on. ;) I dunno yet. It’s just something I’m thinking about, as I’ll be unable to list or post yarns for several stretches this year, and that makes me rather sad. At least wholesale, my babies would be able to find a home when I’m not able to list them. Does that make sense to you guys?

Anyway, about to short out my keyboard with drool, so I’d better go drag myself to bed and get some much needed sleep.

Peace & knitty,
Abby
