Hai! I Can Haz Yarn Pitchurs Cuz I Are Alive!

We’re in billeting, or the on-base hotel, for now. We’ll be here a while, too, seeing as how finding a place to rent is difficult at best, and on base housing is still nearly a month out from being available. We’ll survive - there is a kitchen in the room, and a park nearby for when the Yarn Babies get in. (They’ve been with the Yarn Husband’s Parents for this week, and are having a field day, which makes me happy. This has been a mini-vacation for me, which is why I haven’t written much this week; sleeping, cooking, spending time with the Yarn Husband (David) as grown ups and such.)

We didn’t have an internet connection until this past Saturday, and I didn’t really start using it until Mondayish. But now that we’ve got internet, and I’ve got Photoshop back on the laptop, and I’ve got my dyed yarn and have found the post office… it’s time to get back to work. I’m not just going to slack off for a full month… anymore than I have to.

So. Pictures of what I got done before we moved.

This is Brianna’s Hand Spun Bamboo yarn:

It’s not nearly done, as 780-some odd yards of two ply is taking a lot longer than I thought. One of those hanks was what I got done in a week of spinning. They weigh about 8oz (half a pound) each, and will eventually be plied back on themselves after being dyed. I wish I brought my wheel with us, but didn’t. So for now, this is what I’ve got. It looks better in person.

Between the spinning, I did some sock yarn dyeing. Here’s Apricot:

I’ve got six Apricots, and they are so pretty sitting over on the dresser.

And this is Aquamarine:

I’m very pleased with how Aquamarine came out. Three of these.

This one is Gold, as it is exactly what it reminds me of - dark yellow gold:

The picture is pretty accurate as far as color goes, yay me. Two of these.

And Pico de Gallo:

Pico de Gallo is a bit more red and orange than red and pink. It looks really good, and I have six of them.

And here is Prosperity, round two:

This one is a bit more shimmery than the photo lets on. Three of these.

And last, but not least at all, is Ultraviolet:

It’s a shade more purple than the photo lets on, but just a tiny shade more. It’s one of those complicated colors, where you can’t quite tell if it’s blue or purple or indigo or violet or something else entirely. It’s all of them. ;) Three of these too.

I need to get these listed in the shop, and send out a gift certificate to a Ravelry contest winner… and mail out a Cherry to another Rav contest winner.

I’m also entertaining the idea of doing a sock yarn club, but am not sure what kind of response I’d get. I’d really like to get some of those new yarns in - silks, cottons, bamboos and some neat ‘green’ fibers - and maybe doing something other than just tossing yarn in the shop would help that. I dunno. Any ideas?

In random other news, I made some great guacamole from scratch last night. Family recipe, turned out brilliantly. Checked out a bunch of books from the Library on base and have finished two diet books - one I like, one I don’t. Going to poke around some cook books next, and re-read Tad William’s Otherland, in hopes of finishing the series one of these days.

Oh, finished my Fireworks Socks, but still need to take pictures of them, and have started on David’s black combat boot socks. The Combat Boot pattern is slowly taking shape, but I’m just not sure how to translate that into different sizes. Will take pictures.

Anyway…, I’ve been loving the quiet down time, and am loving even more getting to spend lots of quality time with David - just being together and visiting. <3 Still, I’m starting to miss the Yarn Babies, and have found myself wondering what do stay at home wives do when they don’t have kids?? I figure that’s why they get jobs or volunteer or have hobbies, right? (Man, I wish I had my yarn supplies here - I could get so much done!!) But yeah, I’m about ready for the kids to come back. Almost.. a few more days of catching up on sleep and getting ready for them should do it.

Oh, hai! I are alive!
