Orkney Pi & Free Yarn

I’ve had my doubts if I’d ever get through the Section 2 trees of the Pink Orkney Pi shawl. Especially after having to frog the ENTIRE SHAWL 5 rows into Section 2 the first time, and then ripping back to the end of Section 1 lifeline the second time.

(What? The trees were not lining up with the horseshoe pattern of Section 1! Yes, it was only off 3 sts, but it was THREE stitches off! Had to redo it, even if it meant ripping out 3,200 sts.)

The universe saw fit to take mercy on me the third time. Either that or the third time truly is the charm.

(At least for Section 2. I’m not holding my breath on Section 3. The end of Section 2 lifeline is in and waiting. Watch, I won’t need it.)

Either way, be it Divine Knitting Intervention or simple statistics, I DID make it through the Section 2 trees. And they look pretty damn good, if you ask me!

(We just will not discuss the occasional k2tog’s or sporadic lifted increases when stitch counts were a bit off, or the more frequent going back two rounds to create a yo where there was none, but where one was supposed to be. Hey, it WORKED, and that is what counts!)

See? Trees! LACE trees! In pink.

Orkney Pi Shawl, Section 2 Complete

I’m still not quite sure what prompted me to go with the pink yarn. But it’s really pretty all the same, though the color is total blech in that picture. There were at least 6 other colors to choose from. But I went with the pink. I don’t really LIKE pink. But I like this shawl. And I like it in pink.

(To compensate for my extreme girly-girlness on this shawl, the next one is in black, silver or a dark something. Must redeem myself… to myself.)

I may just dye some of the lace in this next color though. It was dyed for the Phat Fiber April box… and it near broke my heart cutting it up and winding it into samples! It’s SO pretty.

And that’s an inside, indoor lighting at night shot. It. Is. Gorgeous. Pretty sure I could get close to a repeat of it if given the chance.

(Geeze, I’ll MAKE a chance. I wants it. For what, I have no idea. I still haven’t touched the two pairs of socks OTN… shhhh. I’ve just been lubbing me some lace. Rowl baby, ROWL!)

OH! And if you guys happen to want to win some free yarn - almost $60 worth of handpainted yarn - swing on by KnitPurlGurl’s blog and check out her current giveaway. Some stunning yarn for prizes, let me tell you!

Quickie: New Yarns

Color & Contrast: Yarn Desktops

It’s been a while since I took yarn artsy fartsy photos worth setting as my desktop. However,  the new bamboo colors have been calling to me. With the addition of the newest three colors, it was just too much to resist.

(Besides, I’ve always been a sucker for rainbow order and good contrast.)

Long story short, I pulled out the camera and sat down in the sunlight yesterday afternoon to see what came out. Luckily, a few turned out well enough to share with you guys! So, here you are!

(This first one is just a photo I liked, the second and third are the actual desktops.)

You can find the desktop sized version of the black and silver bamboo here: Koi Black & Silver Bamboo Desktop.

You can find the desktop sized version of the last one here: Koi Bamboo Rainbow Desktop.

(The desktops are HUGE images, selecting ‘Stretch’ in Desktop settings usually works well to adjust to your desktop. If there is a specific resolution you’d like, feel free to comment with your resolution and I’ll see what I can do.)

If you’d like to post one of these on your blog for sharing purposes, just link back here with credit given! Sharing yarn porn is good! ;)

Oh, I know this should be a given and all… but all images are copyright Oriri Draco Design, not to be used in web or graphic design, icons, glitteries and so on without express permission from me. Thanks! (:

OMG What Is This?!

On my birthday (and ODD’s 2 year anniversary), I was FINALLY allowed to open the rather large, and weighty, box that had been sitting untouched by my front door for the better part of a WEEK.

I didn’t even read the address label. It was supposed to be a surprise, and so I was good. I didn’t peek at ALL. (One just does not do that when a surprise has been 4 months in the working. It didn’t quite kill me, but it was a challenge.)

So on February 22, when it was officially my birthday, I was informed by the best friend I could open the box. And so I did. With all three Yarn Babies running around spazzing, as is usual anytime a package is opened in their presence.

This is what was inside the box:

“Some Assembly Required”

One Lowe’s trip later to find a large flat washer thingy that was missing, and I had this sitting beautifully in my living room:

Yes. It’s the 2 yard electric. Triple skein. With Counter. From Crazy Monkey Creations. See that little red dot? That’s the counter reset button.

The counter is silent. It’s automatic. It’s amazing. ALL of the winder is amazing. I can’t even begin to describe what it has done for my productivity. I wound near 10lbs of sock yarn in an afternoon. Normally that would have taken me a week.

I lurve it hard core. So much that I’m re-reskeining yarn just for a reason to use it.

Cookie, you ROCK. Thank you. <3 ;)
