Reskeining FTW! (YAY Friday!)

Goooood morning sunshines! (It’s not yet 10am here, and I’ve been going hard since 7:00am. Yay caffeine and techno music! Please pardon my exuberance, if you will?)

Today is a re-skeining day. Lots and lots of it! It’s a bit slow going, since I’m winding from my homemade swift to my niddy noddy. (Yes, I’ve got to do something about that soon. It’s the bottleneck for my yarn production, without fail. But for now, the swift and my arms are holding out, so!)

Anyway! I’ve got 12 more hanks to wind, and a LOT of yarn to photograph for shop listings. But I wanted to share a couple of photos of Burnt Orchid before reskeining… for some reason, I really just love the way it looks!

The little one in the middle is a single, normal sized thingy of yarn. The big fat ones (<3) are two hanks twisted together, for storage’s sake. Here’s a closeup, with the single along the left side…

They are gorgeous re-skeined, don’t get me wrong, but I really do love the painted look in these shots. (Re-skeined they look incredibly complex, as far as number of colors go. Amazing the difference it makes! )

I’ve got another color on the swift and two in the queue right now I need to finish off before starting in on round two of re-skeining Burnt Orchid. This other one is a raw earth and garnet colorway; it’s quite Fall. (I personally like Burnt Orchid more, but this other one is still a very pretty color!)

Ok, back to work with me! Happy Friday everyone!

Oh! Great re-skeining music:

(Showing my age much? ;) )

And It’s Done!

The shop redesign (and total overhaul of the backend) is done! I’m really nervous, but it seems to be working like it’s supposed to! Woot!!

Take a peek!

Good Shop News & Yes, Pictures!

Whee! Good news! The new shop is thisclose to being up and running! I’ve spent the past two and a half days coding and tweaking the design to match the blog’s, and it’s ALMOST there! I’m really happy with the way it’s turning out, and only have some minor cosmetic things to tweak and a few last browser compatibility bugs to work out and then it goes live! WHEEEEE!!

Only down side is that I lose all of the addresses, log-ins and order histories from the old shop. But in return you guys get stability, real yarn sales (the % off kind!) and I’ll be able to give you guys fun things like discount codes and coupons in the future! It’s a good thing overall, and I’ll probably try and get the old information moved over to the new shop, but no guarantees. Databases still short circuit my brain. <3

But enough yammering from me… here are the pictures. ;)

The shop photo for Embersteel:

Shot of the pound and a quarter of bamboo yarn I’m (still) spinning, and making pretty good progress on:

Close up of the bamboo, with a penny for reference:

The bamboo is giving me a run for my money, but I’ve learned a LOT about spinning from it, particularly the way I’m most comfortable spinning. So yay!

Ok, back to work with me! Just wanted to update quickly, and let you all know I’ve not disappeared… again. ;)

Embersteel & Burnt Orchid

These two, Embersteel on top and Burnt Orchid on bottom, were ‘mistake batches’ from working on the wholesale order the past few months. Embersteel was much too dark and Burnt Orchid much too pink-pastel, in comparison to the final and wanted results. And neither was shimmery copper enough. But mistakes or not, I do like these for what they are. Even if I was trying for something a bit different. (The final results turned out beautifully, too - I did eventually get 30 hanks of shimmery copper and pewter. I’m so looking forward to seeing what is created with them all!)

Sometimes mistakes don’t turn out nearly as awful as we expect. <3

Well, It’s Not Yarn…

Still working really hard on the yarn, just nothing I’m ready to show yet. Unfortunately, with all the yarn work, I’ve not had a chance to get the new store filled in, so the old one is up at the moment. Regardless, I’m *still* here. (:

The best news is that I’m also still sane, many thanks to taking breaks to drag my camera around the local area or to sit on the floor with some cut flowers. Turns out I’ve got a thing for macro photography, and it’s been keeping me sane and smiling while my usual art (yarn) is mostly work.

(I still love yarn, but sometimes you just need an hour or two just to focus on something else to shake the “This Is Such Work” feeling!)

Anyway, so while it’s not photographs of yarn, I figure flower photographs have got to be a lot more interesting than another text blurb saying I’ve been busy, while offering no proof. Besides, the blog hasn’t seen pictures in a while! So here we go!
